Cricketers being compared with Kollywood actors

Note : I got the following blog posting as a forward message where the current Indian cricketers are compared with our Kollywood actors. I thing the author (a 'Rajini & Sachin' fan, I think) has penned this blog after our successful tour of Australia where we leveled the test series 1-1. Have some fun on reading this and post your opinion.

My Fav : Vijayakanth and Ganguly.
Least Fav : Sarath and Kumble.

Now to the post....

While thinking about what to write next in my blog, came up with this novel (?!) idea. Now that the Indian cricket team is the toast of the nation following their unexpectedly good performance in the test series Down Under (forget the VB series disaster), I thought of comparing some members of the Indian cricket team with some of the current stars of Kollywood.

Rohan Gavaskar <--> Surya

Both these guys are the sons of great legends and that is the underlying reason behind this comparison. Though they both have a long way to go before catching up with their illustrious fathers, they have shown the prmise and the potential for the same. In both the cases, the burden of expectations is quite huge due to the achievements of their fathers. Just like the fact that Surya has given hits of late and has started fulfilling his potetntial, Rohan has done the same by making it to the Indian XI and subsequently doing well in the opportunities provided to him.

Rahul Dravid <--> Kamal Hassan

Kamal has always been considered as an actor who is technically perfect. We all know that Dravid is the most technically proficient batsman in the team. So stems this comparison. They both are sincere to the task and extremely talented.Another reason for this comparison is the fact that they were unfortunate to have been born in the same era as that of 2 other greats (you know who I am talking about). Had it not been for those 2 giants in their fields, these two would have attained far more success and popularity than what they have achieved now.

Sourav Ganguly <--> Vijayakanth

This comparison too is quite obvious. Similar to the fact that Vijayakanth is the head of the Actor's association, our Ganguly is the captain of Team India. Both men have worked really wonders with their respective teams. When Vijayakanth took over the reins, the Nadigar Sangam was in complete shambles with debts exceeding several crores. Similarly when Ganguly took over the captaincy of the Indian team, our team was down in the dumps after a shattering home series loss to the Proteas, preceeded by a 3-0 drubbing at Australia's hands. But just like the way our Captain cleared all the debts of the Nadigar sangam by the help of star night shows in Malaysia & Singapore, Ganguly scripted a complete turnaround in India's cricketing fortunes with the help of a great support staff of John Wright & Andrew Leipus. Another similarity among these 2 guys has been the fact that they have managed to bring in a sense of unity among the various members of their teams. Prior to Vijayakanth assuming office, the association was faction ridden with a clear gap between the junior and senior actors. But the way they mingled together during their Malaysia show was a heartwarming sight. Similarly, there was always this complaint of a certain aloofness associated with the senior players before Ganguly assumed power. Now you can see the camaraderie between all the players in the team, irrespective of their seniority.

I will be failing in my duty if I fail to mention the final comparing point between these 2 - Though these 2 did so much for their teams, their personal performance left a lot to be desired. Vijayakanth's best performances came before the time he assumed office and after that, he has more flops than hits. Same way with Ganguly, some of his best innings came before his stint as a captain and post captaincy of Team India, he has had more failures than successes.

Anil Kumble <--> Sarath Kumar

Kumble and SarathKumar are veterans of their respective fields. Just like the way Sarath Kumar has reeled off super hits in the past, Kumble has won so many matches for India. But sceptics kept doubting their potential and passed on judgements saying that they both were well past their prime. Just then, the twin hits (Paarai & Arasu) and the Australian tour happened respectively. It has really rejuvenated their sagging careers and has made us expect more such inspiring performances from the duo. One other reason where these 2 are similar is that both of them are married to divorcees.

VVS Laxman <--> 'Cheeyan' Vikram

You would have easily guessed the reason behind this comparison. Yes, they both are comeback kids. Few years ago, mention of these 2 guys' names would have hardly raised any eyebrows. But what a transformation these 2 guys have achieved. Just like Vikram is the current superstar of the tinsel world, Laxman is the superstar in the Indian team. The historic Kolkota innings did to Laxman what Sethu did to Vikram. Though we had all along known the talents of these guys (Look back at Laxman's 167 in the 2000 Sydney Test and Vikram's performance in 'Ullaasam' and you will see what I am saying), it was Eden Gardens and Sethu which made the world take notice of these two and their abundant potential. Once that happened, they both have never looked back. Vikram has been reeling off both mass-entertainers which have been big hits at the Box Office while at the same time he gives quality movies their due & seems like he never ceases to experiment. Laxman's wide array of strokes include the most gracious cover-drive which leaves the connosiers of the game gasping for breath to the most unorthodox of shots like flicking a delivery wide outside the off-stump to the mid-wicket boundary, which every fan in the stadium can relate to.

Virender Shewag <--> Ilaiya Thalapathi Vijay

The reason behind this comparison is the way they have modelled their respective careers. While Vijay has openly divulged in his movies his craze for the Superstar, Sehwag has done the same by saying that he has modelled his game entirely on Sachin.Vijay has been fondly called 'Chinna Rajini' while Sehwag has been rightly nicknamed poor-man's Tendulkar. While you can not relate Vijay's acting and emoting, you can also not relate class and Sehwag's batting. But both have been moderately successful in their respective careers in their own ways, inspite of their unorthodox methods of going about their tasks (batting & acting).

Sachin Tendulkar <--> Superstar Rajinikanth

Knowing me, you would have easily guessed this comparison by the time you started reading what this blog was all about. They both are my idols and heroes in the 2 different fields. I am a diehard and crazy fan of both these greats. Both have a strong fan base - if Sachin can claim to have biggest fan base for any cricketer (past ot presentand he is even supposed to be more popular than the Prime Minister of the country), Rajinikanth can boast of the same among Indian actors (with the only exception of the big B and that too can be discounted due to the fact that Thalaivar acts only in movies whose languages are confiened to a few southern states).Just like the fact that Thalaivar's every movie is eagerly expected & welcomed by the whole Tamil cine industry, every innings of Sachin is looked forward to with the utmost fervour & the nation holds its breath each time he walks out to bat. Just like the fact that the Superstar title belongs solely to thalaivar and there can never be another Superstar in the history of tamil film industry, there has been and can be only one Sachin in the annals of Indian cricket. Both will go down as one of the very best to have graced the cricketing field and the silverscreen respectively

Cronje - Hero to Villain

Wessels 'Hansie' Cronje - a paradigm for any talented and intelligent cricketer (for that matter any professional) of how one should not spoil their career by involving in unnecessary and illegal activities. But still he is one of my favorite cricketer. An inspirational captain, decent batsmen, intelligent bowler and a natural fielder. He led his country in 53 test, winning 28 and he became the first captain, in modern era, to win a test series in all sub-continent countries. Atleast he confessed his mistake unlike our Indian cricketers.

Garth King has written a biography 'The Hansie Cronje Story: An Authorised Biography' on this cricketer who had won 99 ODI out of 138 matches he captained.

When Kamraj serves Rahul

On October 17th 005, Rahul Gandhi made a surprise visit to the recently opened Saravana Bhavan in Ashok Pillar along with his friends. For a few minutes, Kamaraj - one of the supervisors in that hotel - didn't recognize him and everyone thought that some North Indians has come. Then he finally recognized him and as usual, he was treated with 'Red Carpet' welcome. Kamaraj specially put two suppliers to attend them and made sure that he was treated well. Rahul was in no dilemma as what to order. He ordered Thaiyir Vadai (Curd Vada) and he moved to Kaara Doosai (Spicy Dosa). He then tasted their most popular and favorite item Sambar. After that he specially requested a cup of Rasam and one Appalam (Pappad). Finally he completed his lunch by having some Desserts, Juices and Ice creams. Cheque came around Rs 780 and he gave a thousand rupee note and left the hotel happily thus making the two suppliers richer by 200 Rupees.

When he came to Chennai, he really wanted to visit HSB (Hotel Saravana Bhavan) and taste their food and he also joined the big list of Saravan Bhavan Fans which includes some popular names like AB Vajpayee, S M Krishna, our CM, Chandra Babu Naidu and many others (me too Wink ). Its an another feather in HSB's cap which, in my opinion, is doing a great work for the past 25 years by providing quality food and hygienic ambiance.

Finally he himself directed and produced his 19th movie and it was a big hit. After that it was no looking back for him. He became a matinee icon.

Third Personality : A V Meiyappan

His first 3 movies were big flops. He lost nearly 6 lakhs (Mind you, 6 lakhs was huge money then). He didn't lose heart. He took another movie 'Alli Arjuna' , which became a huge hit. Now his production is considered as the biggest in Asia.

Something to think about..........
So many failures were the real pillars of success!!
Never Loose Hope & Never Quit Trying.
Impossible is the word found in the dictionary of fools.

Movie on India’s - Mahatma Gandhi described him, as patriot of patriots - most enigmatic character from the bank of river hoogly by India’s best director Shyam Benegal, will surely create some expectation. Shyam Benegal started his career in 1974 by directing the movie ‘Ankur’. After that there was no looking back for him, almost collecting a dozens of national awards and other awards. He is well supported by music director A R Rahman, lyricist Javed Akthar and cameraman Rajan Kothari.

Story starts from the first scene itself with Tripura congress meeting in 1939. Clash of ideologies between Netaji and Gandhiji. Netaji had to give up his Congress president post, after being elected democratically, as he believed in war against British while Mahatma believed in non-violence. Then he was arrested and he took a decision to fast till death. This forced the British to exonerate him. Instead they house-arrested him.

This movie is divided into three sections - Aitemad, Ittefaq, and Quarbani three motto of INA -, divulge and delve the life of Netaji and many INA soldiers.

Part 1 Aitemad (Urdu) - Vishwas (Hindi) - Faith (English)

This part shows the faith of Netaji that he could liberate India from British. It also explains us the various step that he took to achieve his goal. His plan was to reach Moscow, through Peshawar and Kabul and to free India with Russians help. He requested his friend from Peshawar to help him to reach Moscow. For that he had to reach Peshawar, which he achieved by diverting the attention of British through a letter, which conveyed that Netaji had taken sanyas and he had left to Pondicherry, Arabindo ashram. All this he did through a small drama played by him and his nephew’s family. He changed his look, his attire and also his name, to look like a Peshawar Muslim, so as to deceive British.

There he was introduced to Bharatram Talwar (played by Rajpal Yadav) who knew the route to Moscow and promised Netaji that we would help him to get the help from Russians. Then they both landed in Kabul in Afghan attire and again they changed their name to resemble an Afghan Pathan. There, Netaji was highly moved by the patriotism of a mad monk (He is the one who chanted the ‘zikr’ song) and other Afghans and their dislike to be a slave under British. But Russians didn’t respond to Bharatram’s proposal and Netaji started to look for some help from Germans, though he was against the German’s Nazi attitude. At one point Netaji even stated that he was ready to have an alliance with ghost, if that ghost could free India. His only aim was to free India. Germans was not willing and they asked for some time.

Next he went to Italian embassy and requested their help, which they said they would help him only if Independent India supports them in all issues, which Netaji rejected. They said they would consult with their Axis power friend Germans and would tell their decision. In the mean time, Netaji got help from Uttamchand Malhotra, an Indian gold smith who settled in Afghanistan, and from his wife (Played by Illa Arun). Finally Germans, through Italians, came forward to help him and asked him to spend some day in Germany so as to plan and defeat the British. He then dressed like a German and changed his name and reached Germany through Rome. There he started to work for German government.

Part 2 Ittefaq (Urdu) - Ektha (Hindi) - Unity (English)

Here director tries to explain how Netaji created unity among the Indians who were living in Germany and Japan as POW (Prisoners of War, WW1) to form INA. While working for Germans, he created awareness among Indians lived in Germany to free India and he formed a small group Azad Hind Fauj. At that time WW2 was started and German unnecessarily attacked Russian, which spoiled the plan of Netaji who thought that he could free India with the help Germans through Russia.

When he was working, he wanted a personnel secretary who could aid him in completing a book, which would create patriotism among the Indians. At this juncture, he was introduced to Emilie Schenkl with whom he studied during his college days. Slowly romance started to burgeon between them and they got married unofficially, typically in Indian way with a Brahmin reciting the Vedas. Their marriage was not registered and was done as secret, as Hitler was against a German marrying a foreigner, ‘cause Emilie would lose her citizenship and might be deported from the country. Hitler was highly skeptic, director depicts that in a situation when one of Bose’s friends said that only place to criticize Hitler and his governance was while driving in your private car as Germany had more Spy than police. So they married secretly.

Then he met Adolph Hitler, requested him to support directly to free India. But Hitler responded negatively and even he abused all Indians by saying Indians were coward and they didn’t have any pride. Netaji, with a smiling face, responded that it only one among those Indian was speaking boldly before the world’s most feared personality. Also he stated that it was wrong on Hitler’s part that he attacked Russia and he would pay the price for that wrong decision. Hitler, became restless, and said that he would not help him. Then Netaji, working for Germans, asked to help him to reach India as he could not reach India through Russia. So Hitler arranged a submarine using which Bose could escape to Thailand from there he could reach India.

So he left Germany, his wife Emillie (who gave birth to a child, which they named as Anita Bose) to Thailand. He gave a letter to Emille and asker her to send it to his brother. In that letter, he asked his brother to take care of his wife, if he didn’t return to his motherland. When he sailed under water he had to fight with few enemy’s ship, which was picturized very well by the cinematographer by keeping the camera inside a periscope. There he met Japanese, who not only were ready to help him but also freed all the Indians who were arrested as POW. He went to Japan through Singapore and there he formed INA using these POW. For the first time, our national anthem was sung in the parade that was headed by Bose in Japan.

Part 3 Quarbani (Urdu) - Balidan (Hindi) - Sacrifice (English)

Here sacrifice of every soldier was shown very well. Netaji, after forming INA, put Laksmi - who contested against ABJ Abdul Kalam in presidential election - as the head for female warriors and Abid Hasan, his trusted lieutenant, and Seghal, husband of Laksmi, as the head for the other group. It is considered that it was Abid who coined ‘Jai Hind’ which became the saying of every patriot. With Japan providing food and weapon, he was able to capture 4 places near Manipur and successfully hoisted our national flag.

At this point, Japan did the biggest mistake by attacking Pearl Harbor, which forced the US to enter WW2. Unexpectedly the support given by Japan was stopped, as they knew that they were in danger after attacking US, and Japanese asked Netaji to stop. But he refused. So he continued to fight against the British and tried to prevent them from entering the place, which they captured, through the river with small group of army. British were surprised to see the INA soldier’s skills and even wondered how very few INA soldiers could effectively prevent them from crossing that river? So they planned and arranged some boats with effigies placed in those boats. There aim was to empty the arsenal of INA. After emptying the INA’s weapon, British did them through air attack. At this time US bombed Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki. WW2 was over. Axis power succumbed to defeat. Finally Bose tried to escape through plane, which was crashed.

Everyone thought that Netaji’s was died in that air crash (still to be proved) and it was announced all over the world. Emilie got this through radio. British, then, hanged Abid, Seghal to death in Delhi before declaring freedom to India. Initially free Indian did not accept INA commanders. Thanks to that incident, Indians realized their value, started to respect INA soldier but still Netaji has to get his quota.

Sachin Kedekar as Netaji is at his very best. Don’t know whether he imitated Netaji’s body language and mannerism correctly. But he is successful in presenting Netaji in his own way. His dialogue deliver is fine and he excels in most of scenes, whether the scene between him and Hitler or when he addresses INA where he stresses the importance to capture Delhi (Punch line is ‘Give me your blood, I will give you freedom’). Lot of good performance from Kulbhushan Kharbanda as Uttamchand Malhotra, Rajit Kapoor as Netaji’s trusted lieutenant Abid, Illa Arun as Kulbhushan Kharbanda’s wife. Rajpal Yadav as Bharatram Talwar was disappointing. He overacted in many places.

A R Rahman’s theme music (mainly Afghanistan theme and War theme) is good. The song ‘Ekla chalo’ (Meaning of the song is that ‘I will fight alone even if all the Indian doesn’t support me. Whatever happens let it happens and it will happen. I am not afraid of anything. Only aim is to free India. Even if everyone heeds me, I will walk alone and do the job for my country’) is played in the BGM whenever Netaji leaves a place or country. ‘Desh ki mitti’ (appears when he thinks about freedom of India), Goomparani (when they elaborates the Mother-son sentiment) is used well. Two-march fast songs enhance the situation. When the movie ends, ‘Azaadi’ song appears when cast and crew are scrolled. (Similar to ‘Vellai pookal’ in Mani Ratnam’s peck on the cheek)

Directed very well by Shyam Benegal. Main plus point is that director doesn’t dilute any scenes particularly the marital scene between Emille and Bose. Art direction played a very important role in this movie. Screenplay is not bad. Cons are duration and lack of publicity. Film runs for 220 min.

A nice movie to watch. Schools and convents can support this movie by taking their kids (from 2nd standard to 7th standard) to watch this movie. It will be interesting for those kids and at the same time it is highly educational one. You can’t expect the youngsters of today’s India to support this movie.

Pros : Direction, Set, Camera, Music,Lyrics, Cast
Cons : Duration (3:45 min), Lack of publicity
Plot : Very Good - One of the best
Cast Performance : Very Good - Natural acting by all
Soundtrack : Superb - The best I've listened todate
Camera Effects : Wow - Best effects I've ever seen
Watch this movie with : Alone

Schumi almost did it

On July 13th 2004, Portugal's Louis Figo organised a charity foot ball match.

A Host of top international players and a selection of the best Portuguese players took part in the Luis Figo All stars match.

Luis Figo was given a standing ovation at the Algarve stadium on Monday night, in recognition not only of his foot balling talents but also the charity work carried out through the Luis Figo Foundation.

In keeping up with the reasons for its creation, the Lums Figo Foundation supports and develops a number of actions - stimulating sports in schools, allowing new talents to emerge, and promoting projects integrating young athletes.

The projects also help children and teenagers in need or suffering from physical or mental disabilities.

Six time Formula One World champion Michael Schumacher is as passionate about football as he is about motor racing. He almost made it two-nil but his well timed header hit the post.

I saw those attempts of Schumi in NDTV news. It is really a world class stuff.

Read more about that match here.

Sorry Ganguly fans

Doing a ‘ganguly’?

In the last couple of days, SMS and email messages doing the rounds are claiming the official acceptance of two new words by Oxford Dictionary with reference to India - ‘bangalored’ and ‘ganguly’!

While ‘bangalored’ is a term coined in the US for jobs outsourced to Bangalore as a result of which people are being laid-off in the US, ‘ganguly’ apparently means “something that comes and goes immediately”. For eg, his attendance in office is ‘ganguly’.

According to Vani Mahesh, proprietrix, EasyLib.com, “Such words add to a livelier conversation but should not be made official. They could be used as emoticoms like smileys. But they certainly should not become part of a dictionary. SMS culture is promoting such words.”

Sunil Kumar, founder of Samskrutha Surabhi, who has worked in the IT sector before says, “In a global village, it’s natural for words to find common acceptance. New words tend to have both positive and negative effects. Words like ‘Bangalored’ are hostile. But they are accepted once they become common. ‘Pink slips’ too happened post-9/11.”

He too feels SMS helps spread such words rapidly. “Most words are coined by people who are bored in life! I wouldn’t use such words even if Oxford officially accepts them.” A net search threw up some of these words as potential entries for the next Oxford update:

DicChicks (pl. n): Delhi-ites who travel at breakneck speed in their cars with loud blaring "dic-chick" music; Manjured (v): Slicing your fingers while flying kites; Howrah (v): The sneeze you feel but doesn’t come through (derived from Kolkata station where the rail always rattles but the train never comes through).

Murali - A Wicket Machine

We have heard the term 'Run Machine'. But this word 'Wicket Machine' is new and it can be applied only to the 'Big Eye' Murali, a Srilankan Tamil. For the past year or so, he has been picking wickets at will without much effort. He is not even celebrating when he saw a batsmen taking a long walk back to the pavilion. Even if he celebrates, it looks very artificial. He is not a conventional off spinner like Prasanna (Not me Razz Razz ) or John Emburey. Being an off spinner, he doesn't have the same variety as a leg spinner, say Shane Warne. Sometimes he is negative. He doesn't give any loop once the batsmen start to attack him. In all aspects he is very unconventional. Still he has 54 fifers and 17 tenfers in test cricket. Not to forget about the 350+ victims he has in ODI. Initially his effort was going in vain. But now he is definitely a match winner.

But the what makes him so perilous???

Every batsmen know that they are going to get a big off spinner or a Doosra (which any good batsmen can pick from his length. He always pitches the ball in off stump or middle if he wants to deliver a doosra. He never possesses a acute angled offies. So if he pitches it in the middle or off, its going to be a doosra) Still they aren't able to play him. Even Indians, though he has less number of test matches against us, are not that much comfortable against this spin wizard as they are against the 'Hollywood'.

To me Shane looks to be a better bowler and better entertainer than Murali. But what is it that Murali has that Shane doesn't? 'cause of which Murali is able to imitate or even better Shane's achievement with less effort, less thinking, less sledging (infact no sledging) and less pangs.

Any comments on this....

Mesmirising Music

Just listening to 'Newyork Nagaram' (around 1000th time) from 'Sillunnu Oru Kaadhal'. A Mellifluous song which gives a 'Savage Garden' feel. Good use of guitar (Nowadays ARR is obsessed with guitar. 'Roo ba Roo', Lukha Chuppi and now Newyork Nagaram). Cute lyrics by veteran Vaali and very well sung by ARR (getting better, with every movie, as a singer). 3 more songs are good. Overall a decent album.

Bose - The Forgotten Hero Music Review

Bose-the forgotten hero, as the name suggests this movie is about Netaji’s life, involves three great film personalities Shyam Benegal, A R Rahman and Javed Akthar. In my opinion two freedom fighters who were very electrifying in there approach towards struggle for freedom were Bhagat Singh and Netaji. Movies on these two personalities have a great chance on creating an impact on the current generation (I feel the approach used by other ‘ahimsa’ greats are little bit impractical now and I don’t think we have that kind of mentality). Two-year back, Music of Legend of Bhagat Singh (LOBS), scored by ARR, directed by Rajkumar Santhoshi and lyric by Sameer, was acclaimed critically and ARR got a very good name from the people of Punjab. For his excellent performance as Bhagat Singh, Ajay Devagan received national award for that year. ARR got filmfare award for his music.

After Roja, Bombay, Vandemataram, 1947 Earth, Lagaan, Swades, LOBS (wait for Aamir Khan’s ‘The Rising’), ARR is the unanimous choice of all great directors when it comes to score for patriotic movies and period movies. A great musician will score for all situations and for all people. They don’t split the people as classes and masses. They give high quality music in a lucid and very understandable form so that even a layman can understand his score. This has been proved by our own KVM, MSV, Raja, R D Burman, Shankar Jaikishan and now by ARR. Now let us what is in store for us from ARR in this album?

This album has 7 songs and 13-theme music.

Aazadi sung by ARR, Western Choir Chennai. Genre: Patriotic Song.
Well sung by ARR. ‘Jaya he’ sung by the choir in the BG adds richness to the song. Brings a good patriotic feel. Depicts the feeling of the people who struggled for the freedom. Has the potential to be the next ‘vandemataram’.

Kadam Kadam sung by Vijay Prakash, Mumbai Film Choir. Genre: March Fast song.
This was the theme song of INA, which portrays their desire to free India from British. The original version of this song itself will be very energetic. ARR as infused some brilliant percussion that elevates this song to next level. One of the best songs in the album.

Ekla Chalo sung by Sonu Nigam, Nachiketa Chakraborty. Genre: Soft Patriotic song.
Song starts with Bengali lyrics by Chakraborty (Ekla Chalo means walk alone. Got this from my Bengali friend) and then Sonu Nigam took charge in Hindi. Very very soothing. A song that grows on you.

Hum Dilli Dilli Jayenge sung by Mumbai Film Choir. Genre: March Fast song.
Another good song. This song shows the INA army men’s belief in Subhash and the importance to protect Delhi.

Desk Ki Mitti sung by Sonu Nigam, Anuradha Sriram Genre: Soft Patriotic song.
I feel this song will be featuring on Netaji. He explains his love towards his motherland. Well sung by Sonu Nigam and is one of the best melody in the last 2 to 3 yrs.

Zikr sung by ARR, Rafi, Rakeeb, Shaukar Ali. Genre: Muslim Prayer.
Just vintage Rahman not just as a composer but also as singer. This is the best song in the album. First it was 'Piya haji ali' in Fiza, next it was 'Noor-Un-Ala-Noor' in Meenaxi and now it is 'Zikr'. Full of energy. Sung with lot of spirituality and vibrant. Hats off to ARR.

Ghoomparani sung by Sapna, Satyanarayan. Genre: Lullaby.
A soft melody sung well by the new singers. Has been composed for the situation and it will grow on you after the release of the film.

Then we have as much as 13 theme music. All have been scored to suit the screenplay.

· Durga Pooja (which is inevitable if the film as Bengal as back drop),
· Theme music on Netaji appears in two different versions,
· Afghanistan Theme music (Best in the theme music category),
· Theme music on Hitler appears twice (Netaji tried to get help from Hitler. But Hitler refuses to help him. Got this from a Shyam Benegal’s interview),
· Two different Emilie (his lady love) themes,
· 2nd song and 5th song appears as an instrumental,
· Two war theme music,
· Finally, the album ends with our national anthem as an instrumental. We can’t and should not review our national anthem.

A R Rahman has tried to bring the Hollywood culture of scoring lot of theme music for a movie and we have to wait whether that culture will work in Indian cinema. He has justified his selection for this prestigious project with some scintillating songs and innovative theme music. In my opinion it is one of the best album from ARR and people who can understand Hindi will enjoy it more. I am yet to see a negative review from any renowned sites.

Pros: ARR Music, Javed Saab’s Hindi lyrics and Sonu Nigam.
Cons: I am yet to find one.
Time to listen: Not with your friends. Listen when you are alone in your house. Better to play in a good stereo system or listen through good headphones.

Final Say: A must buy for ARR fans and Hindi music lovers.
